Cabin Guide

Note: We do not Airbnb our home. It is for our personal use, and the use of friends and family. The use of the cabin and all amenities are at your own risk, so please be safe and careful. If you would like to leave a tip for the cleaning crew, please leave it in the small wood bowl by the carport door.

Check – in:

  1. Please relax, enjoy yourselves, be careful of your own safety, and respect our property.
  2. Please turn up both hot tubs so they will heat up for your enjoyment. (They are approximately 10 degrees below normal temperature, so they are warm, but not hot.) Chemicals are in the top step on the front deck, if needed (clarifier, de-foam, etc.)
  3. Please do NOT use the brown or green towels for the hot tubs (the tub treatment may cause bleach spots on the brown or green towels). There are plastic seat boxes on each porch with miscellaneous towels to be used for the hot tubs. Please ensure the spa covers are on and clipped properly when finished using.
  4. The kayak is available for your use, but please be respectful of it, and don’t lose the paddle. Vogel Park is 3 miles south on Hwy 129, and they rent paddle boards and kayaks, if you want more than one. They also have putt-putt, hiking trails, a beach, and more. Paddles, life jackets, and fishing poles are in the shed out back (keys for the shed and mule are by the kitchen door). The mule is old-school: pull out and hold the choke, turn the key and pump the gas once. It idles very low, so it seems like it will stall, but it doesn’t. Let it run for a few minutes before taking off. If it floods, you just have to wait a few minutes before trying again.
  5. Please do NOT leave food or food wrappers outside. We have bears, coons, possums, and other critters that like to trash the trash. Please take your trash with you – we do not have trash pick-up here. Sadly, there is no close drop-off site.
  6. The first trash can (pull out in the island) is for trash, the second is for burnables to start fires (NOT recyclables). The coffee pot has a self-contained, removeable carafe; simply press the cup against the silver button to dispense. The well water is safe, but we use purified water in the coffee pot due to high mineral content.
  7. The wood stove doors must be closed when using the fireplace – it is not an open fireplace. The switch to the right turns on the fan; the round knob controls the fan speed.
  8. Wi-Fi is by Starlink and is called “Seclusion”. The password changes periodically; Text Byron (706.540.9448) prior to arrival to receive that and the door code.

Check – out:

  1. Please strip the sheets and pillowcases only, and leave them in the hamper, along with any towels/wash cloths that were used.
  2. Please ensure the thermostat at the top of the stairs is set to 65 (heat – winter) or 80 (cool – summer) when you leave, and that the fan is set to Auto. It is helpful to leave all ceiling fans on & doors open.
  3. Please ensure the stove and oven are OFF. Check each knob, please.
  4. Please wash the dishes (by hand or dishwasher). Please do NOT put any metal pots/pans or wood utensils in the dishwasher. Please don’t leave dirty dishes, but you can leave clean dishes in the dishwasher/rack.
  5. Please ensure any fires in the fire pit and fireplace are out.
  6. If you play with the rubber snakes and the iguana, please put them back near the doors on the front deck as they help deter crows from attacking our glass, lol. My apologies in advance if they wake you attacking the glass – we are working on ways to prevent that (the icicles have helped some).
  7. Please ensure all bed and bath doors are left open, and all exterior doors are locked when leaving.

IF you want to be helpful (but this is NOT expected):

Clean sheets are in the closet in each room to remake the beds for the next guest; just let me know if you do this, please.

  • Dishes can be put up
  • Laundry can be done (please do not leave anything in the washer or dryer)
  • Floors can be swept
